Compare & Contrast
Recently for a college english
course I was assigned to prepare a compare and contrast essay. It was hard to find two different articles that were based
upon the same subject that would be worth depicting. However I came across one of the new Dove advertisements and instantly
idea after idea came into my head about how Dove would be easy to contrast with other advertisements because they depicted
"the new kind of woman" or real life women as opposed to rail-thin models.
As I worked on my essay I started to realize the true impact that
this ad has on not only myself but the whole country. These women represented everything that women have been trying
for years to say to the world, and that is that every woman is beautiful in her own way, beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
therefore beautiful means something different to everyone. What I see as beautiful may not be what you see
as beautiful and vis versa. That is what this ad shows, it has women of different nationalities, weights, and body types and
when you look at the advertisement, as a woman any ways, you probably think those woman are gorgeous, not only because
of their looks but also because of how strong they come across. They appear confident and sexy. This is why i have named my
web page "The New Kind of Woman". Most ads sell their product by having tiny models, however Dove gives us hope
that it is a new trend to show a real woman and make her sexy and vivacious.
I am thankful for the writing assignment given to me by my teacher because it
opened me up to new ideas and new point of views. Being able to write down something that you feel passionate about and being
able to share it with others is therapudic. I encourage each person who comes across this web site to do the same, think of
something that means alot to you and write it down, voice your opinion, it's why we are here.
